MEET GARY
GREGORIO “Gary” UMALI, award winning artist, an aircraft engineer, and a recreational pilot based in Christchurch, New Zealand, embrace his passion and love for the arts amid his rewarding career in the aviation industry. His passion for flying opened another significant door he never thought and imagined he can explore. His worthy experiences as a pilot let him witness and appreciate the vast blue skies and awe-inspiring clouds which everyone dreamed to see. This led him to start believing that through painting, he can transform subjects into different hues, shapes, and perspectives that the world is just awaiting to see; something where the flights of dreams and realities are turned into picturesque masterpieces.

A MESSAGE OF HOPE
The young sparrow represents a “growing hope.” Though little as it is, the chick shows enormous courage and determination. Its claws tightly grasped the branch of the tree –standing still against the blowing wind. Its expression of confidence reflects a visage of hope and stability.
Restoration Amid Isolation
The pandemic caused turmoil around the globe. The outbreak of Covid-19 changed how we live, laugh, and love. From once a short distance, we are now coping with long distance friendships and relationships. This ISOLATION has become the new normal to protect our loved ones.
At a glance, the art may seem to reflect an outcry but never did we imagine that this anger, anxiety and isolation can be an opportunity of RESTORATION. This can be a way to restore our mother nature and give its time to rest and hibernate. And as we continue to fight the battle against the pandemic, let’s take our time to restore ourselves and become better human beings.
May this painting and the passing season make us remember our resilience amid the pandemic.
